How The Nourishing Cleanse was born

Like me, you may have tried many cleanses, detoxes and fasts only to be disappointed or, even worse, to have given up. Why? Because many cleanses out there are unrealistic and unsustainable.

I know this all too well. You see, I’ve been on a cleansing mission since my early 20s, when I began to seriously study nutrition. That’s when I realized how many toxins I had breathed in and consumed during childhood—by eating conventional foods, drinking sodas, breathing in toxic household cleaners, getting vaccinations, taking antibiotics and simply living on planet earth!

So I committed wholeheartedly to ridding my body of any and all of these toxins.

I tried countless cleanses, including a raw rice diet that was meant to kill parasites but instead gave me 2 weeks of running to the toilet constantly. I drank all kinds of horrible tasting herbal teas and tinctures to purify my blood and bowels, ate nothing but fruit for a spell, consumed only raw foods for months, ate nothing at all for a time, did the Master Cleanse, did multiple liver and gallbladder flushes, drank copious amounts of hydrogen peroxide with water, drank nothing but apple juice and psyllium, swallowed lots of clay, and much, much more.

The problem with most cleanses

And what happened? On all of them I was hungry and had horrible food cravings. Even worse, my blood sugar levels swung like a pendulum! This left me feeling fatigued, moody and unmotivated to carry on. (One of the biggest dangers of most cleanse programs on the market is blood sugar instability). To top it all off, I had a hard time telling if all my effort was even doing any good.

I just knew there had to be a better, more sustainable and balanced way to rid the body of toxins. I began crafting my own cleansing program – one that would be gentle, safe, and pleasurable.

    Just wanted to let you know how the cleanse went for me. It felt great, mostly! It was a little hard the first couple days adjusting to no coffee and sugars, but after that I felt great, more energy, my digestion felt good- no bloating or gas or diarrhea which I had been having occasionally, and I started sleeping better as well and feeling more clarity in general about my life again. I enjoyed the broths and soups and I think I may continue to make the chicken and beef soup and bone broths and eat for breakfast and meals during the week as a go to. My blood sugar felt really stable starting the day that way. I also had way less symptoms of pms and cramping this month with my period, which I feel was partly or mostly due to the cleanse along with some herbs I have been taking.
